This is my very first Deborah Lippmann nail polish, and folks, I’ve got to say that this brand lives up to the hype! Absolutely FABULOUS!!!

Across the Universe has a sheer navy base color with small pieces of blue glitter and larger pieces of metallic green and light blue glitter suspended throughout. The larger pieces of light blue glitter, especially, are really cool. They’re light, so they almost behave as tiny little mirrors and reflect a bunch of colors. It really gives this shade some complexity and dimension. But as far as the shade name goes…I think I can definitely see the inspiration behind the name, but all I can see when I look at my nails is lily pads! I’m seriously just reminded of a Monet painting, lol.

I have to be honest and say I was a little skeptical on the first coat of this polish. The navy is just SO sheer, and I actually didn’t get a single large piece of glitter on my pinky! But the first layer almost acts as a base coat for the rest of the layers (I’d still recommend using an actual base coat, though!), and everything sort of sticks to it. As soon as the second coat is when your nails will look pretty close to bottle color, but here, I am wearing three coats.

If you don’t want to use so many layers of polish, I think the sheer navy base color makes this perfect for layering over other creme shades.

For all the glitter action happening with this shade, it actually dries fairly smooth. But I would still suggest using a top coat like Seche Vite to give your manicure a nice glossy finish (and to seal in the glittery goodness!).
