Collection: Beyond the Mistletoe (Color Club)
Retail Price: $3.00 (USD) per bottle
Today, I’m reviewing Color Club’s winter 2011 Beyond the Mistletoe collection. I know this collection review is a little late, but I got these after the holidays, and they’re too glittery and fabulous to review them a whole year later or something. Besides, glitter never goes out of style!
In all the photos above, I am wearing 3 coats of each glitter nail polish. If you want to build these up to full glitter coverage, you will need 4 or more coats of nail polish.
Beyond the Mistletoe: This is a bluish-green holographic glitter with a clear base, giving the nail polish an overall turquoise coloring. With “mistletoe” in the name, I thought it ought to be more green, but I suppose the hints of blue takes this “beyond” ordinary mistletoe colors. The holographic glitter looks gorgeous in this nail polish. In the sun, it’s like Christmas lights are twinkling through all the glitter!
Sugarplum Fairy: This is a purple holographic glitter with slight hints of pink, all suspended throughout a clear base. Of all the shades in this collection, this one has the most holographic glitter. As you can see, my camera had issues focusing properly! The name of this nail polish definitely goes with the final multicolor finish. Absolutely magical!
Holiday Splendor: This is my favorite nail polish from this collection. It has silver and green holographic glitter, all suspended throughout a jelly greenish-teal base color. It looks gorgeous on the nail (photos can’t do it justice!). The jelly base color also makes application of this shade so much easier than all the other glitters in this collection.
Jingle Jangle: This nail polish has royal blue glitter with bits of silver and purple glitter as well, all suspended throughout a clear base. It’s also the only nail polish in this collection without holographic glitter! I do like the overall blue glitter finish, but I think it really needs the holographic glitter to tie it in to the rest of the collection.
Candy Cane: This nail polish has mostly pink glitter with hints of purple and blue glitter, and the tiniest bit of holographic glitter, all suspended throughout a clear base. This shade is cute and girly, but based on its name, I thought there also should’ve been some red glitter in the mix as well. Nothing about this glitter makes me think of candy canes.
Gingerbread: This nail polish has gold glitter and gold-toned holographic glitter with a clear base, but the finish is quite unique. The holo is definitely apparent, but I get hints of copper and bronze as well, which reminds me of gingerbread! Honestly, in the bottle, it doesn’t look like anything special, but on the nails, I think this is so perfect for the holidays, and unlike any of the other gold glitters I’ve seen this winter.
Overall, the formulas for these nail polishes vary. Holiday Splendor has the best formula; application is a breeze, glitter spreads evenly, and the jelly green base is stunning and unique. The other shades in this collection are glitters with a clear base; however, application isn’t so smooth. While I never found myself pushing glitter around on my nail, the glitter did not spread evenly. Too much or not enough glitter would get on my nails, and a couple times, the glitter clumped on my nails because of this. I would suggest using a thick top coat like Seche Vite to smooth out your manicure.
Holiday Splendor and Gingerbread are my favorites from this collection, but Beyond the Mistletoe and Sugarplum Fairy are a close second. If you haven’t tried a Color Club nail polish yet, I would recommend Holiday Splendor as your first bottle! But regardless of the shade you’re looking for, just in case you can’t find any bottles near you since the holidays are over, online beauty shops still have this collection in stock!
