Color: Little Brown Dress (Essie)
Retail Price: $8.00 (USD)
This shade is from Essie’s fall 2010 collection. It looks significantly different in the sunlight and in the shade. My photo, which is in sunlight, shows a milk chocolate brown with a creme finish. Indoors, Little Brown Dress appears more as a blackened brown, similar in color to black coffee. I like that this shade is so dark, yet very clearly brown as well. It’s a pet peeve when shades get so dark that you only see black!
The formula for this shade was easy to work with. It’s thinner than most Essie formulas I’ve used, and since I generally think Essie formulas are a little on the thicker side, this was just right for me! Little Brown Dress is incredibly pigmented, so you might even be able to get away with wearing just one coat! In my photo, however, I am wearing two coats of nail polish.
I find this shade so intriguing! It’s a fun twist on vampy manicures, but also provides a brighter alternate to those of you who like to wear black nail polish. It’s obviously a fall shade, but I’m swatching it now because I think it fits well in spring (consider a grapevine manicure that runs across all your nails) or even in summer (consider a leopard print manicure using actual leopard colors). I love it when colors can jump around the calendar!
To me, this is the perfect brown (like a Crayola brown marker!). Not too dark, and it doesn’t remind me of mud! If I was going to recommend any brown to add to your stash, it’d be this one!
